We are honored that Smithfield has been named an affiliate harbor of the Sail250 program in Hampton Roads. Book your trip now for the Smithfield Maritime Rendezvous weekend in Smithfield to discover our charming historic town and be part of this epic celebration! Planned actvities: - Tours of at least three special guest boats - the 72' Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Sigsbee (built in 1901 and one of only a handful of skipjacks still around) and the buyboats Mildred Belle (built in 1948) and FD Crockett (the last existing log buyboat in Virginia) - Hands-on, full family educational elements such as knot tying and touch tanks - Children's Story Trail along Hayden's Lane featuring the book "Ahoy" Saturday Only: - Activities on the boardwalk including live music and an Art Show on Saturday from 10 to 4 - Water Safety, demonstrations and kids activities by the Sea Scouts Troop 37 and the Coastguard Auxillary - Hop aboard the Smithfield Police Boat and meet the officers - Take a free guided walking tour of South Church Street to the museum and discover the true history of Capt. John Sinclair (who resided on South Church Street and was accused of piracy) - Activities at the 1750 Courthouse - Live Music by Old Goats on the Fiddlin' Pig patio from 2 to 5 pm - A specialty Farmers Market including locally grown and produced products and a nautical theme from 9 am to 12 noon - A Pickers Market where you can find vintage and antique items for sale from 9 am to 1 pm - Plein Air Painters, and wet paint sale at the Arts Center @319 - Maritime Exhibit "Two if By Sea" at The Arts Center @319 - Skeeter & Co. Handmade Jewelry Trunk Show at Beyond Main - Meet Boo the Cockatoo at the Art Show and more coming! This event is free to attend (there may be some special events for an additional charge). There is also free parking and a shuttle that will make stops along key areas in town.
