What led to Juneteenth? Go beyond June 19, 1865, to explore the journeys of freedom seekers in the decades leading up to Juneteenth. In this program, you will learn about how freedom seekers during the American Revolution and the Civil War actively shaped the path to emancipation. From Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation in 1775 to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865, uncover how individuals and communities pursued freedom – efforts that culminated in what we now recognize as Juneteenth. You will leave with ready-to-use classroom resources and primary source activities that help students analyze these pivotal moments and connect them to the broader story of Juneteenth. Participants will receive 2.0 professional development hours for attending this session. For more information, please contact teacherdevelopment@cwf.org.
