About Come join The Friends of Urbanna, and celebrate Urbanna's Founders Day August 1, 2026 This free and day-long event will feature a July 1776 living history presentation performed in the historic Urbanna Baptist Church at 121 Watling Street at 11 am. Colonial Williamsburg Nation Builders "Thomas Jefferson" and "Martha Washington" will engage in the lively discussion, "250 Years in the Making," to illuminate the rocky path to the Declaration and their hopes for future generations. This gala celebration of Founders Day steps out at Urbanna's 18th century courthouse with a Town Crier declaration and a Colonial Fife and Drum march through town with "colonial citizens" to the Urbanna Baptist Church, with colonial music preceding the 11 am performance. Following the festivities at the church, wander into town and through an encampment of the Virginia Navy's HMS Otter with interpretive sailors demonstrating the beginnings of the Virginia Navy -- all taking place on the grounds of Urbanna's 1766 Scottish Factor Store, the only one remaining in our country. Visit the 18th century as historians and docents will guide you through the restored store and present the history of the 1754 Mitchell Map, an Urbanna treasure we love to share. We invite you to explore this early edition of the Mitchell Map, which the Library of Congress declared to be one of the most important maps in our country's history. The recreated 18th century seagoing vessel Luna, docked in Urbanna Harbor, welcomes you to come aboard for a tour. This vessel was built and is owned and operated by the Colonial Seaport Foundation to showcase our maritime heritage. The exact reproduction of the 1608 shallop used by Captain John Smith to explore the Chesapeake Bay in 1608, the Explorer, will welcome visitors in the center of Urbanna with interpreters from the Deltaville Maritime Museum, one of the family of Museums in Middlesex County. Children can play games and enjoy colonial culture nearby the Explorer hosted by Middlesex County Museum and the Urbanna Business Association. Urbanna's colonial courthouse will be open for tours, along with many historic buildings in Urbanna. Plan to spend a day exploring the deep and rich history of Urbanna!
