The Throwback Thursday Film Series screens a variety of classic and contemporary movies for an adult audience. All films are shown in the Williamsburg Library Theatre.

Aug. 6: The Godfather, Part II (1974)

This sequel to the original film juxtaposes the life and career of Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) with the experiences of his son Michael (Al Pacino) as he expands the power and reach of the Corleone crime family. Brilliant on all levels, it features fine work by Robert Duvall as the family consigliere. Written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. 3 hrs., 32 min. (R)

Aug. 13:  Tender Mercies (1983)

An alcoholic former country singer befriends a lonely widow, sparking a chance at redemption for both of them. Directed by Bruce Beresford, this movie was nominated for five Academy Awards, with Robert Duvall winning the Best Actor Oscar. 1 hr., 32 min. (PG)

Aug. 20: Apocalypse Now (1979)

During the Vietnam War, a soldier (Martin Sheen) is tasked with locating and eliminating an Army Colonel (Marlon Brando) who has gone violently rogue. Robert Duvall steals the show as a napalm loving Wagner fan in this notorious film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. 2 hrs., 27 min. (R)

Aug. 27: Open Range (2003)

A trio of free-range cowboys come into conflict with a corrupt local rancher in this superior western that stars Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, and Annette Bening. Costner also directed the film. 2 hrs, 19 min. (R)
